"intelligence :■—
The Wairarajpa natives have 'hud a meeting which was attended by fftany of the settlers in tha! district. The natives came to the determination that unless the Government wou d supply them"
arm* f»r their defence, in case of a" visit from 3 RangiWata, they would join with him for tbe' r own safety. It appears to be the iniprestioa of the eettlere, that it would be anwue tb arm them unless a bddy of military was stationed in the valley to act as a chefck on them.
Oh Satu-diy week last, a steamer was seen by the natives off Palliser. Oar readers will remember that the day previous a steamer was seen off Hawke's Bay. it will either be the DaiVEa bound for tha southward or Nelson, or a trench' steamer from Tahi i boudd for Akiroa.
The settlers, generally; in the Wairarapa, will grow sufficient this season for their own consumptibn. ■ :
At one or triro stattdns the lambing season had c jtnmeaced. The weather was unfavourable.
