LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
On Monday last, the Wesleyan Day School, for children of all denominations, commenced operations, ihe number of children attending being more than the most sanguine of the projectors anticipated at-first starting. This attempt at introducing a really good seminary for the instruction of the young, should receive the warm export of the inhabitants, and we trust that those who feel an interest in the prospects of the rising generation, will endeavour to assist its progress by all the means in their power.
We. perceive that casks made from New Zealand timber, are in great demand. Not only is there a sufficiency manu r actured for our own use, but some are finding their way to the sister colonies We trust the day is not far distant when New Zealand will drive European and American made ones out of the Sydney and Hobart Town markets.
