TX7HEREAS, certain disaffected Natives in the T V Southern District of the Colony have taken up arms, and are now in Rebdiion against the Queen's sovereign authority, and for the suppression of such Rebellion, active. Military operations are about to be immediately undertaken by her Majesty's Forces. Now I, the Lieutenant Governor, do hereby proclaim and declare, that Martial Law will be exercised throughout that part of the said District, in (he Island of New Ulster, which lies to the Sou h of aline drawn from Wainui, in Cook's Straits, to Castle Point, on the East Coast, excluding therefrom the Town of Wellington, as described in a Public Notice.ofthe 10th September, 1841, duly Published in the Government Gazette from the 20th day of April 1846, until the said district shall be relieved from the jurisdiction of martial law by public proclamation.
