SUPREME COURT.

Before his Honor Mr. Justice Chapman.

This Court was opened with the u?uh[ forms on Mjnday. The calendar was rather a heavy one, there being 11 prisoners for trial- IKwever, not one of this number can be reckoned as belonging to the emigrants who originally came out and settled in this place. The following prisoners were found guilty and received sentences :— Thomas Pilcher was tried and found puilty of receivii g stolen property. Also found guilty of stealing a waistcoat, the property of Mr. Watson. Sentince —seven years transportation. W.lliam Huff and Patrick M'Kay, two soldiers of the sSth Regt., were tried for burglary* but found guilty of larceny. The property found on the prisoners belonged to Mr. G. Waters. Sentence — IB months imprisonment, with hard labour. Patrick M'Donald, private 58 h Reg., for breaking out of gaol whilst wa ting for trial. Sentence—lmprisonment for one month. James Larry, an American, and Cornelius Badger, also an American, were tried and found guilty of felony and larceny. Sentence—2 years, with hard labour. Thomas M'Loughlin, private Wth Reg., was found guil y of larceny. Sentence—l 2 months, with hard labour. The property found on the three prisoners having been stolen from Messrs. Bethune and Huntti's stores. A native, who some months' back robbed Mr. Lyon's store, and who escaped at the time from the officers of justic-, and who was captured about a forinight sgo, was fined eight pounds, or in j
