.«. We have heard on pretty good authority that the Maories in the neighborhood of Auckland, had made an attack upon that place, but were, defeated. It is also rumoured that the natives contemplated making a second attempt. It is certainly strange we have had no vessel from Auckland, and we fear there is some truth in these reports.
