LOCAL INTELLIGENCE

Duties.-—The duties have been imposed at Nelson since the arrival of the Lively from Taranaki. But we have not heard that any demand has been made for duties upon goods in the settlement at the time of re-imposing the Customs' Act. Fiotjr.—When the Fidele with flour from Wellington arrived at Nelson, the settlers there had been three days without flour! The Fidele and the Amelia took up together about nine tons. The Sarah Jane has since sailed from here with about 20 tons. Mr. Beit reported that he expected a vessel from Sydney, however the only vessel laid on for these parts was the regular trader Star of China, and has been so long over due that doubts for her safety are expressed, but by some it is felt that she has been taken off the birth, or induced to proceed via Auckland.
