NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS

We have received a second letter from our correspondent Rusdcus, equally valuable with his first communication, but want of space and the late time at which it was received, compels us to delay giving it insertion until our next publication. We cannot credit the statement of Anti-Trickery, for we do not believe the gentlemen named would have acted in so disgraceful a manner. AntiTrickeiy must be aware that an agreement had been entered into for printing the " Spectator " at this Office for six months, and we do not think the parties concerned could have had any interest in contemplating removing the journal six weeks prior to the insertion of the advertisement in question; or that they had a block specially turned for a heading, three weeks and better, previous to its appearance; or that they had the type, press, S(c, overhauled, preparatory to removing; or that the only stumbliny block in their way, was the fact of the printing ink being misplaced. We say we cannot believe it, but who knows, save those interested; but we trust, for the sake of all that is good and generous, that this underhand act, does not lay at their door. In answer to Gurtius, we will always fearlessly ■;■■ insert our opinions, more especially when the , . good of the settlement is at stake, but we never will descend to the low and vulgar habit of attacking a man in his kitchen. Private affairs have no right to be discussed in the colum?is of a newspaper. Public acts as often as is necessary, but even then with a due regard for language. Slang terms ought to be avoided at all times, for they ultimately recoil on the writer: in fact, a man who uses iuch terms, generally does so from inability to express himself in more appropriate words.
