VfVuKIC jtmig 110X1^JL While crossing a bridge a Picton man’s attention was drawn to a kingfisher flapping its wings as if in trouble on r nearby mudflat. He found the kingfisher’s beak was held firmly inside the shell of a cockle about 2 inches long. His first attempt at freeing the bird was unsuccessful. Finally he carried the kingfisher home and forced the ' cockle open in a vise.
