FICTITIOUS CALL

AMBULANCE SENT TO WHANGAMATA

Last Saturday a fictitious telephone call, purporting to have been sent from a local doctor’s rooms, was received by the Waihi St. John Ambulance Brigade asking it to lake the ambulance to Whangamata to convey a man with a broken leg to the Waihi hospital. On arrival at Whangamata it was found that nothing was known of the alleged accident and the ambulance returned to Waihi where a complaint was lodged with the police. Inquiries were instituted but the sender of the call could not be traced. The matter is viewed in a very serious light by the authorities.
