WORK ABOUT TOWN
FOREMAN’S BEPORT TO COUNCIL CLEARING OF STREETS IMPROVEMENTS AT BEACH . Works completed or receiving attention during the month were reported on as under by the foreman, Mr R. Anderson, in his report to the council:— Maintenance: The storm-water drains and footpaths in ,George, Wilson and Consols Streets have been cleaned; also one side of Station Road footpath is being cleaned, formed and metalled. Roads have been patched and metal spread as it becomes available. The foot-bridge Jn Seddon Street was repaired. Heavy rain at the week-end flooded the Queen Street bridge to a depth of about four feet but no damage was done. Waterworks: The main pipe line to the dam has been inspected and everything is in satisfactory order. Several water services have been renewed and new ones installed, owing to the shortage of half-inch pipe this work has been held up for the time being. Quarry: The output at the quarry for the month was 165 yards of crushed metal and 75 yards of uncrushed. Bad weather has hindered the work this month.
Work at Waihi Beach was summarised as follows by the caretaker, Mr J. Toms:
During the fine spell the reserve was burnt off. The following roads have been cleared: Savage Avenue and Brighton Road and the road to the picnic area. The footpaths in Oceanvibw Road and the Terraces, as well as the tracks through the picnic area, have also been cleared. The chippings are being carted to the camping area as lorries are available. A rise in the ground at the back of the camping area is being levelled to give more camp sites. (The reports were adopted.
