Octopus Seizes Boy Seized by the arm by an octopus when feeling under the rocks for paua on the beach near T© Akau, north of Raglan, a small Maori boy received a severe fright. An adult Maori came to the rescue, and while the octopus clung* to the arm he plunged a knife into its head. The oo'.opus spurted black fluid which stained the water, but was dragged out and freed from the ]&oy’s arm, wher© its suckers had a tenacious bold. The octopus measured about eight feet from tip to tip of its tentacles. Successful Labour Dance There was a very good attendance at the Waihi branch of the Labour Party’s first dance of the season, held in St. Joseph’s Hall last Saturday night. The spot waltz was won by Mr Gordon Spence and Miss Audrey Dobbs, and the Mont© Carlo by Mr Ivan Angel and Miss Nancy Skinner. The music was played by the Tune Paraders’ Orchestra, and an extra was given by Mr J. Stewart. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee and Mr R. L. Skinner was M.C. Waihi Chess Competitions Handicap games played on Wednesday evening in the Miners’ Hall reading room by members Of the Waihi Chess Club resulted; W, Grean beat G. Renwick, S. Bjerring beat T.
