CONCILIATION COUNCIL SITS IN WAIHI PROBLEMS NEARING SOLUTION To consider the dispute between the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Ltd., and the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries Union about wages and conditions, a sitting of the Conciliation Council was opened in Waihi yesterday morning and, after a session lasting till nearly midnight, was resumed this morning. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr C. L. Hunter, presided, the advocate for the employers being the New Zealand attorney and director, Mr J. H. C. Banks, and for the employees, the secretary of the union, Mr J. R. Slevin. Assessors from both sides sat with the commissioner. In a statement made to the Press early this afternoon, not long after the conference had risen, Mr Hunter said lie was happy to state that the points raised had been approached in a spirit of give-and-take, and tlmt most points of variance had been settled. He felt sure, added the commissioner, that when the remaining points were discussed at the adjourned sitting next Wednesday week agreement salisafetory to all concerned would be reached.
