ACADEMY THEATRE

CURRENT PROGRAMMES

A double-feature programme will be screened at the Academy Theatre j' to-morrow. Richard Carlson, Cecil Kcllaway, Martha O'Driscoll and ( Frances Gifford are featured in "My ' Heart Belongs to Daddy," a comedy of mistakes which are eventually all straightened out with the aid of a kindly taximan named Alfred. The second picture, "After Midnight with Boston Blackie," promises to be the most exciting hit in the lovable scoundrel's entire career. Chester Morris again plays the title role, while George E. Stone once more portrays the "Runt," Blackie's cver- ' present and never helpful man, Friday. The plot of Republic's "In Old California," which will be shown on Monday, is laid against a colourful background, which, combined with an excellent story and actors and actresses whose abiity is unchallenged, makes it one of the most compelling photoplays to come out of Hollywood in many a year. John Wayne adds another feather to his cap as the mannerly Bostonian who becomes quite effectively two-fisted r when his right to earn his living as a pharmacist in pioneer Sacramento is challenged and other favourites include Binnie Barnes, Albert Deleter and Edgar Kennedy. The sup-

porting picture will be Universal s gala "Follow the Band." Rhythm, romance and revelry are said to be happily combined in the picture which boasts fourteen headline playBy thousands from the land, from the sea and from the sky a tiny outpost garrison at "Wake Island" was battered for fourteen days. The story is told in Paramount's epic of courage, "Wake Island," to be presented on Tuesday and Wednesday next with Brian Donlevy, MacDonald Carey and Robert Preston at the head of the cast.
