PIONEER’S DEATH

MRS MINNIE LAWLER EARLY DAYS RECALLED The death took place Thames hospital on Thursday of Mrs Minnie Lawler, in her 'B4th year. Together with her husband, the late James 'Patrick Lawler, Mrs Lawler resided at Karangahake and Waihi during the stirring days of the Waihi strike in 1912, removing to Thames in 1913, afterwards going to Kerepeehi and Ngatea, 'where she opened the first store. Returning to Thames about ten years ago, she has lived there ever since.

Born in Wanganui in 1860, Mrs Lawler was predeceased by her husband and leaves no family. An adopted daughter, Mrs D. V. Jenkin, •resides in Thames, also a nephew,. Mr Jack Lawler. Another nephew, Mr Jim Lawler, lives in Auckland. The late Mrs Lawler was known and esteemed by many friends at Waihi, Kerepeehi, Ngatea and Thames, who will regret to learn of her death.

The interment, which was private, took place on Friday.
