ACADEMY THEATRE
TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMMED George Stevens' “Penny Serenade ” said to be one of the most pleasurable screen treats of the year, will be repeated at the Academy Theatre tonight. The romantic drama from the Columbia studio is more than an exciting reunion of two great stars —it is everything that a love stery should be.
Against a background of tuneful melodies, “The Great American Broadcast,” to be screened at the Academy Theatre to-morrow and on Friday, unfolds the gay, fascinating story of the courageous, talented-peo-ple who were responsible for the first broadcast programmes. From the same studio which produced "Alexander’s Ragtime Band,”, “Tin Pan Alley,” and others, the film stars Alice Faye, John Payne, Jack Oakie and Cesar Romero at the head of an exceptional cast. An intensely moving story is unfolded to the accompaniment of songs, laughter and spec ■ ialty numbers which combine to make “The Great American Broadcast” an outstanding musical film.
