THE GAME OF BOWLS

WAIHI CLUB HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

AN EXCELLENT SEASON

FINANCIAL POSITION SOUND After having experienced one of the best* and longest, bowling seasons for some years, members of the Waihi Bowling Club held their annual meeting on Saturday evening. The president, Mr S. 11. Thompson, presided over a large attendance,-and before

the business was commenced those present stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Walter J. Brown, who at the time of his death had been patron of the club for 13 years. Opportunity was also taken to congratulate one of the members, Mr T. A. C. MacDonald, on his election to the Waihi Borough Council.

REVIEW BY PRESIDENT

"The club has concluded one of the best and longest seasons for some years," said the president, in the course of his report. "We played four inter-club matches, winning three and losing one. A number of successful tourneys were held by the club, and one in which the returned soldiers took part we hope will be held annually. A very fine cup has been presented by Mr J. W. Harvey, of the Golden Cross Hotel, for firstyear players, and it will be played for early in the" new season." Mr Thompson congratulated the club on its bal-ance-sheet, and stated that the newseason would open with the finances on a good footing. Since May, 1940 the club had raised £6l for patriotic funds, which was truly a great effort for a small organisation. Because of war conditions, the club had been unable to proceed with the installing of ■electric, light on the green as it was unable to procure material. In conclusion, the president thanked the secretary, Mr W. V. Hill, the committee and members for the help given him in carrying out his duties during the past season, and said any service he had rendered the club had been a pleasure.
