STATE FOREST EMPLOYEES

DISMISSAL BECAUSE OF TRACTOR SHORTAGE UNION OFFICIAL’S CRITICISM By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, This Day. Because of an alleged shortage of logging tractors, fifty men employed iii tlie new State Forest Services’ timber mill at Whakarewarewa, near Rotorua, have been dismissed, according to advice received by Mr W. Seaton, president of the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union and secretary of the South Auckland branch of the union. Mr Seaton commented to-day on the seriousness of tlie situation, coming so soon after a request- by the Commissioner of State Forests, the Hon. F. Langstone, for' co-operation in the transfer of men from public works jobs to the timber industry. He said lie was at a loss to know why operations at the State mill should be held up for want of tractors when, with the tapering off of public works, tractors suitable for logging purposes should lie made available.
