RESULTS OF THE ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS MANY SUCCESSES GAINED The results of the School of Mines e.viniinations conducted at the end of Inst year by the Mines Department have just come to hand. They show that 22 students of the Waihi school s.'.t. gaining 24 first class, seven second class and seven third class passes. One student, Mr A. E. Goodwin, was successful in gaining the valuable School of Alines scholarship of £SO per annum, tenable for four years at the Otago University, and another, Mr T. Marshall, obtained a partial pass failing in one subject only. Following are the detailed results:--Fire Assaying—Senior: First class, T. Acland. Junior: First class, D. Murdoch, W. Kingsford. Theoretical Chemistry—Senior: First class, T. Marshall, A. E. Goodwin. Junior: First class, G. Spurwav, M. Marshall; second class, C. Iloldaway, N. Carnachan. Mechanics: First class, A. E. Goodwin, T. Marshall. Ventilation of Alines: First class, A. E. Goodwin, T. Marshall; second class, E. Howe.
Winding, Hauling and Pumping First class, A. E. Goodwin, T. Marshall.
Metallurgy of Gold and Silve First class, T. (Marshall.
Mining (gold): First class, T, Marshall.
General and Mining Geology: Sec ond class, E. Rowe.
Land and Aline Surveying: Firs class: T. Marshall, A. JO. Goodwin second class, D. R. Waldin. Mathematics—-Senior: First class A. E. Goodwin; third class, T. Marshall, E. Alaekic, J. Kelly. Junior: First class, L. Bell, M. Marshall, G

Electricity—Senior: First class, A. JO. Goodwin, T. Marshall. Junior: Second class, N. Edwards; third class, N. Cuipan, R. Howard. The following students of the Waihi School of Alines have passed the iimil examination under the Mining Act entitling them to first class mine manager’s certificates: K. Birchall, .1. H. Craig and R. B. Dunlop. T. St. li. Acland has qualilied by examination for a battery superintendent’s certilicate and G. T. Coxbead obtained a partial pass.
