TWO ZULU DWARFS
ONE SMALLER THAN FAMOUS TOM THUMB
HEIGHT ONLY 20 INCHES
The smallest fellow in the world was recently in Cape Town. He is Sampie, a Zulu dwarf, 20 inches high (or short), 14 years old, has not grown for four years, and is six inches shorter than the Tom Thumb of the Chicago World Fair. says the "Cape Times." Sampie has his big brother with him. Big brother is Jewel, aged 16 and 22 inches tall. He has grown three-quarters of an inch in the last
four years. Their story is a strange one. Unlike most dwarfs, they arc not deformed. They are perfectly formec —in miniature.
Both are intelligent. Sampie is quite self-possessed, but Jewel hates the sight of a camera. Their parents are quite normal. The mother is a largo woman, while the father, who is in Cape Town with them, is a normal native of about sft sin in height. Jewel was the fourth child. The other three were quite normal. The fifth child, a brother, who is also in Cape Town, is a normal-sized native lad of 15 years. Sampie, the sixth child, was a dwarf. Children subsequent to Sampie have been quite norI mal.
The dwarfs were born on a farm j in the Transvaal near the Premier | Mine. Sampie weighed eight ounces at birth and Jewel 12 ounces. It is said that Sampie, if he does not grow, will be the smallest dwarf in the world. He shows no signs of growing. For breakfast on a recent morning the two Zulu dwarfs each ate half of a hard-boiled egg and half a slice of bread and drank a small cup of l coffee. j The two of them call make a meal off a banana.
They speak in tiny little voices, but. know practically no English. Sample's suits are made out of three-quarters of a yard of material.
