LITTLE HOPE LEFT

FOR FINDING OF MISSING AIRMEN MELROSE’S OPINION Australian and N.Z. Gable. DARWIN, November 29. Mr C. J. Melrose, on arriving here, stated: “I dont’ think there’is any hope of finding Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, and Mr T. Pethybridge. They probably came down in the sea.” He added that every island in the vicinity of Victoria Peninsula had been searched. There was no foundation for recent rumours of a ’plane having been seen. Natives probably picked up some . leaflets dropped from the search ’planes and made reports in the hope of getting the reward offered.
