THE LICENSING ISSUE
BIG MAJORITY FOR NATIONAL CONTINUANCE UPWARDS OF TWO TO ONE Although the figures in connection with the licensing issue are not yet complete, the position is far beyond doubt,, electors having overwhelmingly declared themselves for National Continuance, the valid vote being 352,313 against 169,393 for Prohibition, a majority of well over two to one. State Purchase and Control did not appeal, the- total number of votes being’ 31),499- 5 In ; the Thames electorate 63(33" elector’s ported Continuance and 3' 018 wer£ for Prohibition, while State Control claimed only 872 votes, the informal papers numbering 84. Not one of the 12 districts seeking the restoration of licenses managed to secure the 60 to 40 per cent, vote required.
