QUARREL BETWEEN CHURCH AND PARLIAMENT ISSUE TO BE FOUGHT OUT • Australian and N.Z. Cable. LONDON. February 24. The smouldering quarrel between the Anglican Church and Parliament regarding divorce, will be fought out. as the result of a powerful representative committee of churchmen framing proposals to exclude divorce from the Established Church, says the “Sunday Graphic,” The committee suggests the poration in the marriage service of a vow that neither party in any circumstances will seek divorce, which must be observed under pain of excommunication, including the refusal of communion. Couples refusing to take the vow must be married by registrar without the Church’s blessing. The proposals must first be submitted to Convocation. If approved they will be taken to Parliament. Their advocates declare that if Parliament refuses, the measures must be adopted by the Church as an administrative act, for which confirmation by the civil law is not required.
