HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MEETS READING OF BILLS RESTRICTION OP IMMIGRATION P 0 Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, time day. In the House of Representatives yesterday Mr Lee, in introducing the War Pensions Amendment Bill, said it proposed to permit all soldiers who had had a period of active service to put in a claim for a war pension, in the event of ill-health, on the ground that their service had contributed to their breakdown. The Bill was read a first time The Motor Cabs Bill (Mr Mason) was also read a first time. The Immigration Restriction Amendment Bill (lion. Coates), extending- for two years the provisions of the Amendment Act of 1931, which expires on the 31st of December next, was introduced and read a first time. The Act gives the Government power to prohibit or restrict the entry into New Zealand of any specified nationality or race, or of any specific class or occupation. It provides that no person shall land in New Zealand unless he or she has a permit granted by the Minister. The British Nationality and Status of Aliens (in New Zealand) Amendment Bill (Fraser) and the Summertime Amendment Bill (McKeen) were read a second time.
Mr McKeen agreed to amend his Bill so that the present half-hour of daylight saving would be retained, but the period would be extended for one month to Hie third Sunday in April. The House rose at 10.30 p.m.
