BURGLARS AT WORK AGAIN

TWO SHOPS ENTERED AT WAIKINO TOBACCO AND GOODS STOLEN Two burglaries took place in Waikino last night, the premises of Mr L. Steel’s bakery and general business and Mr J. Pivac’s tobacconist shop, only a door or two away, being entered and a quantity of goods stolen in each case.

Entry was effected in the case of Mr Pivac’s shop by breaking a pane of glass in the front door and turning the patent lock, while in the case of the other shop the front door was forced. Cigarettes and tobacco were stolen from Mr Pivac’s and goods were also removed form Mr Steel’s, and although details in the latter case are not yet available it is probable that tobacco and cigarettes again attracted the attention of the intruders.

Circumstances suggest that the robberies might be the work of a supposed gang that successfully carried oua several thefts of tobacco and other goods in Waihi recently. The epidemic of burglaries ceased, however, two or three weeks ago. Last night’s burglaries took place some time between midnight and dawn.
