At what age does a pear tree cease to bear fruit? Evidently not at three score years and ‘ten, for a Southland Times reporter was shown a Roxburgh pear tree which for more than 70 years had borne fruit ip abundance. Though regularly pruned and ( tppped it had grown fo a gregt height. It showed no signs of terminating its productivity, and its long golden pears were as tasty as ever. The subject recalls an old English rural saying: “Plant pears! for your heirs.” J
