RETURNED SOLDIERS

MONTHLY MEETING OF WAIHI BRANCH

REVIVAL OF INTEREST

The monthly meeting of the Waihi branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the

Band Hall on Saturday evening last, the president, Mr J. Mitchell, in the chair. There was an attendance of

40 members. A good deal of routine business bearing on pensions cases and other matters was dealt with. Reporting for the committee appointed to visit cases of sickness, Mr W. Holdsworth stated that members in the district hospital had been visited regularly, also others outside the institution, and he was pleased to say that all were progressing as favourably as could be expected in the circumstances. The committee was thanked and Messrs Mitchell and Hartwell were appointed the visiting members for the ensuing month. The chairman expressed gratiflea-

tion at the large attendance of exservice men that evening, evidence that additional members were joining up. He, however, hoped that the number of “diggers” at the anpual meeting of the branch on Saturday

next, April Sth, would be doubled. Mr Colin Mason (Waikino) endorsed the chairman’s remarks, and said that everything augured well for the coming year as far as membership was concerned. No doubt many a “tin plate” would be in need of assistance during the coming winter

and it was desirable that the branch should be in a strong and sound posi- | tion to render the required help. If they did not stick to their less fortunate fellows he knew of no other organisation that would. The business over a social hour was spent, much appreciated vocal items being contributed by Messrs Caundle, Moralee and Patullo. Mr W. Clark presided at the piano.
