TOO EXPENSIVE A LUXURY

RETENTION OF DIRECTOR OF TOWN PLANNING NO MONEY FOR WORK By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, this day. A statement published yesterday announcing that Mr J. W. Mawson, director of town planning, had resigned owing to a disagreement with the Government on town planning was referred to by the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Internal Affairs, who said it was incorrect to say that there had been any disagreement with respect to the town planning policy beyond the fact that the retention of a director of town planning at a salary of £I2OO a year, not subject to the reductions imposed by the national expenditure adjustment, was felt to be a somewhat expensive luxury at a time when neither the Government nor the local bodies were in a position to spend money in connection with regional and town planning.
