On Saturday next, May 2nd, the male members of the Waihi Golf Club will .start the season’s matches with a stroke round on handicap. Opponents will be drawn at the club bouse at 1.-15 p.m.

Blake, inspectors under the Education Department, are at present visiting the schools in the Waihi district. Mr Barr, science instructor, is also visiting the Waihi schools.

The annual cryaanthemum show and saie of work under the auspices of the Waihi Girls’ Friendly Society will be opened in the Miners’ Hall on Thursday afternoon and continued in hc evening and on Friday. In addition to a fine display of blooms there will be sales stalls, miniature golf, afternoon t*.a and attractions for all.

Mr J. S. Montgomerie, Labour candidate for Thames, will address members of the Miners’ Union in the Band Hall to-morrow {Wednesday) evening at 7.30 o’clock. He will speak before the enginedrivers at the same time next Saturday evening at their usual meeting place. Mr J. A. Lee, ex-M P. for Auckland East, will probably be in Waihi in the course of a few days and will deliver a public address.

Mr J. S. Harris, who was appointed district agent for the sale of shares in the New Guinea Development Company (N.Z.), Ltd., with headquarters at AA’aihi, informs us that he has discontinued offering those shares to the public pending a convincing reply by the promoters to an adverse criticism of the proposition published in the last issue of the newspaper Truth (New Zealand edition). Meantime Mr Harris has withdrawn from our advertising columns a notice relating to the flotation of the company.

Air mail services abroad are being utilised by New Zealanders, a total of 24 44 letters for transport by air having been sent from the Dominion for the quarter ended March 31st. For the experimental mail to have been taken from Australia by the City of Cairo, 452 letters were sent last week. The Karachi-England air mail is also being availed of, 875 letters being sent in the first three mouths of li.ia year; G 22 letters wore sent tor Australian air mail, and 550 for air mail in Canada and the United States.

Citizens arc reminded tl'.at the grand field day, arranged to provide funds to replace books lost by pupils in the recent fire at the District High ‘School, will take place on Saturday at the Recreation Ground, the programme commencing at 11 a.in. There will be schools and motor cycling sports, all mariner of games and competitions, produce sales and refreshment stalls and other attractions appealing to both children and adults. The Federal Band will enliven the proceedings with musical selections.
