INTER-CLUB BOWLING

WAIHI’S UNIQUE RECORD FOR SEASON EIGHT GAMES. BIGHT AVINS Six rinks from the AVaihi Bowling Club visited Hikutaia on Saturday and engaged the local bowlers in a friendly inter-club match, the result of which was of more than ordinary interest to the AVaihi players as a win meant an unbroken series of successes for the season. And victory was their lot, but it was not easily gained as their opponents put up a splendid fight, winning three of the six games, their defeat on the aggregate scores by IS points—l2o to 102—being due to the heavy margins gained by the rinks skipped by the AA r aihi president (McDermott) and Farrell, who finished up 22 to 9 and 27 to 9 respectively. This was Waihi’s eighth match and the record, probably unique in the history of the goldfields district, is one of which hey have reason to be proud. Their wins were against Thames (2), Paeroa (2), Te Aroha (2), Tauranga South and Hikutaia (one each). The visitors were warmly welcomed on arrival by the president of the Hikutaia club (Mr E. Elliott) and when the results were made known —some of the last heads being played with the aid of electric light —Mr Elliott congratulated the AVaihi men on their win and the club on having come through the season without a loss, a quite unusual achievement.

The president of the Waihi club (Mr J. McDermott) thanked Mr Elliott for his congratulations, and said he was proud of his club’s performance. The members of the team had naturally looked forward with very keen interest to the result of the play that afternoon, and the progress of the games had indicated almost up to the last heads that the issue was in doubt. The HikUtaia players had put up a stern fight and given their opponents an anxious time. Appended are the scores (the Hikutaia players being mentioned first): — ‘ '
