PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET
WELLINGTON DEFEAT OTAGO BY 65-RUNS AUCKLAND IN FINAL By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, this day. Wellington won the Plunket Shield match after a game of ups nd downs in which each side did its best to throw the game away when practically won, and Otago succeeded. When Wellington had only added 50 runs in their second innings for the last four wickets the game was once again open and with 258 runs to make Otago had 180 on the board for four wickets and the match was then in their hands. Shepherd gave them an excellent start with 49 runs and Kavanagh, a colt, did still better. He and Aloo put on 88 for the fifth wicket and then the whole side shut up completely. Hollings and Baker knocked over the last six wickets for 18 runs and the .northerners won by 65 runs. Auckland must now beat Wellington outright to win the shield.
