MURDERS FELLOW PRISONER PLUNGES KNIFE INTO BACK BECOMES SUDDENLY MAD Australian and N.Z. Gable. SYDNEY, October 7. Suddenly becoming maniac, a prisoner at Cootamundra gaol plunged a long carving knife into the back of a fellow prisoner. After being cowed by the warders he was locked in the padded cell. The murdered man was Walter Hunter. Hearing cries of agony, the warders rushed to the cell and found the man bandishing a knife dripping with blood. He was awaiting trial on a charge of wounding. The two prisoners were in the kitchen peeling potatoes when the attack occurred.
