REEF DEPOSIT AT MATAURA NORTH VALUES PROM 5/- TO 35/The operations carried on at the head of the Mataura Stream, Waihi North, by A. S. McNaughton and party, prospectors, have resulted in the opening up of a lode deposit which it is intended to thoroughly investigate by means of sinking and driving. Already two adit levels have been put in, and the sinking of a prospecting shaft on the lode is now being carried out. Though ip the early stages of development, the results are encouraging, assay values running from 5/- to 31/5 per ton. The ore so far met with carries a large percentage of silver. Tlie locality ic one which holds out good pro-speeds of success, and i( is Held by mining men that the country in and around Waihi, without goingfar aim'd, is. well thy of the full- j est investigation, and that outside of the actually worked areas of the Waihi and Grand Junction Companies, little or no serious exploratory work has been carried out.
