WEST COAST MORALITY

ATTACK BY MINISTER STRONGLY RESENTED REPLY BY DISTRICT M.P’S. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, this da% Messrs H. E. Holland (Buller) and J. O’Brien (Westland), M.P’s., have' issued a reply to the Rev. Gilbert’s attacks on the West Coast, asserting that the people of the coast maintain a standard of citizenship and morality as high as in any part of the world. They declare that it is recklessly and foolishly absurd to say that picture houses and hotels keep open in defiance of the law. The former do so with official permission and devote the takings to charity. Mr Gilbert’s reference to funerals they denounce as callous and incorrect, and certain to be resented by all who are acquainted with the West Coast.
