The total deaths in New Zealand in 1928 was 11,811. The chief causes were: Heart' disease 2315, cancer 1374, chest diseases 1027, violence 956, tuberculosis 699, apoplexy 643, senility 544, kidney disease 455, arterial disease 394. Infectious diseases accounted for 423, of which influenza took 242.
