MELBOURNE’S BANDITS BECOME BOLDER THE OLD HANDS BUSY MELBOURNE, August 12. Detectives are of the opinion that the bandit who * tar ted the present string of hold ups is a new criminal. They nts-> believe that known gunmen, inspired,by tho luck of the newcomer, am now operating and these'have been responsible for recent exploits which have been bolder than tho-e reported at the beginning of the outbreak. At the outset the bandits used masks and other di.-guises, but now they openly display their faces. In several eases the reported facts, after investigation, have been seriously doubled by tho detectives. A number of oilier reports have been purely imuginaiy, and in one case tho police wireless motor palm’ was reported to police headquarters as "a car containing a number of men whose actions are very .suspicious.” A feature of the tlitee hold ups reported at tho week-end was that in two cases te gunmen worked in pairs.
