The Subject of the Essay shall cle; The Benefits to Waihi and surrounding' districts resulting from the East Coast Railway.” 2. The date of closing of the competition shall be 26th July, 19 28. 3. The Essay to be open to all Primary School Pupils. 4. The prizes shall be: First £2 2s, second, £l, third, 10/6, and three prizes of 5/- each. 5. Essay to be written in school under the supervision of the teacher. 6. Time allowed to be U hours. 7. Teachers must not supply or show any written notes to pupils. 8. Pupils must not discuss the subject with their teachers during the three days prior to the writing of the essay. 9. Teachers to certify that the above conditions, Nos. 5,6, 7, and 8, have been complied with. 10. Essay to be written in ink on one side of paper, preferably on foolscap, and must not exceed 300 words. 11. List of awards, and essays to be published in special supplement of “Waihi Telegraph” or a subsequent issue of that paper.
12. All envelopes to be addressed to “The President, Chamber of Commerce, Waihi,” and to be endorsed “Essay Competition.” 13. The decision of the judges shall be final.
