I FREFZIB WORKER'S DEATH POLICE MAKE ARREST ACCUSED GRANTED BAIL By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE this das Shortly before 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening, a middle-aged man named Robert Tbelwall was admitted to the Cook hospital suffering • from concussion and died an hour later. On Wednesday morning Garnet Wolseley McMinn, a freezing works employee, was arrested on a charge of •nnrder. It is alleged that deceased was struck by McMinn.* McMinn’s arrest followed on a statement made to Detective McLeod. McMinn is a freezing work 4 employee at Kaitaratahi. Tbelwall was employed at the same trade. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death was opened before the coroner, Mr E. C. Levvoy, S.M., at the Cook hospital yesterday morning, when formal evidence of identification was given. William Guild Tbelwall, brother ct deceased, said that deceased was a single man,. 48 years cf age, and a freezing works butcher. He last saw his brother alive on Tuesday afternoon at which time ( he was sober, His brother had occasionally had liquor, and, after having it, was not quarrelsome; in fact, if anything, was rather the other tvay. He had never actually seen his brother drunk. Later iri the morning "Grant .Wolseloy McMinn appeared at the police station to answer a charge of having murdered Robert Cecil Tbelwall; Detection McLeod asked for a remand until Thursday, January tl, in order to carry out further investigations. Accused asked for bail. No objection was made by Inspector Bcclcs, who, however, asked that in view of the seriousness of the offence, it should be substantial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £250 or one of £SOO, the J remand being granted.
