BEACH HOMESTEAD

INSUFFICIENT REVENUE PRODUCED

COUNCIL TAKES ACTION

The opinion was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Borough Council last Thursday evening that the borough homestead at the beach was not producing sufficient revenue. The matter was brought up when a letter from Mrs I), I. Southward, schoolteacher and present occupier of the homestead, was read. Mrs Southward asked that repairs be executed to the roof of tiie building as soon as possible, as it was in a bad state of repair. The request was granted. It was explained that Mrs Southward was allowed the use of the building at a very low rental, and that the Education Board was paying nothing for the use of it for school purposes. Or. H. A. Pipe said it might bo possible to increase the revenue by letting the premises to outsiders during the holiday season. This suggestion met with the approval of the Council and it was decided to call tenders for the lease of the homestead for the three months commencing December 1. It was also decided to write asking the Education Board whether it was prepared to pay for the use of the premises as a school.
