WAIHI HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBEES A SCANDALOUS' CHARGE The monthly meeting of members of the Waihi Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, Mr J. E. Slevin (chairman) presiding. There were also present Mrs Hamilton, Rev. H. Gottorn and Messrs S. H. Brown, " H. B. Dale, S. H. Walmsley, Jas. Thomas and A. R. Richards. The secretary reported that the old ambulance had been sent back to Messrs Pomeroy and Co., of Hamilton, for a report on its condition and the cost of putting it into good running order. It wad decided, subject to the report being approved, to instruct the ■; firm on completion of the work to en- ; deavour to sell the vehicle as an ambulance or for commercial purposes on behalf of the board.
Attention was drawn to the fact that the charge made for the use of a railway car for the removal of a patient from /the Waipukurau sanatorium (Hawkes Bay) to Waihi had been £35. It was generally agreed by members that the amount was exhorioitant, and it was decided to communicate with the Ministers for Railways and Health on the matter in the hope of obtaining a reduction of the charge.
The medical superintendent, Dr. Cole, at present absent on holiday leave, wrote recommending the board to endeavour to arrange for the visit to Waihi of the consulting engineer to the Auckland Hospital Board—who will be in Paeroa shortly—-with a view to obtaining from him a report on the question of a steam plant for cooking and laundry work at the Waihi hospital. The board decided to request Dr Cole to take steps to arrange the visit. Accounts totalling £619 were passed for payment.
