May 1 Sporadic and small strikes among various industries in ten Eastern Amen can cit:o3 occurred on May Day, involving less than 50,000 workers. There was no violence, though in several cities the police were compelled to disperse overflow audiences at Socialist meetings. (Received 9-30 a.m.) TOKIO, May 1 Various psrades of workers displaying red bands occurred here and in neigh bounng cities to day. Large forces ol polic-j kept order, and but few arrests were made. The police strictly enforced the regulation against the display of the red Ihg. A large gathering was addressed by Radical speakers. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 2
The Hyde Park May Day demonstrators adopted a resolution in favour of a workers’ commonwealth.
