LABOUR'S APPEAL TO GOVERNOR
AGAINST DEATH SENTENCES
PLEA 'IFOR LENIENCY. United Service Telegrams. (Received 12.30 p.m.) CAPETOWN, December 19. The Labour Party ha« addressed a lel ter to the Governor requesting him to exercise- his /prerogative in the direction of not appointing any further special criminal court s for (he triaii of offences committed during the industrial disturbances on the Rand. To withdraw the cases already pending from the venue of such (jourts, to restore the ancient right of trial by jury, and to commute the death sentences paused by the special couits. Six of nine men tided charged with tbo UrakpiMi. murders during the revolution have been discharged, and three sentenced to death with a recommendation to mercy.
