ARCTIC TRAGEDY ?
MESSAGE FROM WRANGEL ISLAND A CALL FOR RELIEF. RESCUE PARTY IN v TROUBLEi. United Service Telegrams. (Received 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 25, Imlicationa of the possibility of anothei Arctic tragedy came in a brief wireless message from the Siberian coast received by Vilhjalmnr Stcfansson, the noted explorer, to-day. More than a vear ago several Canadians sailed for Wrangel Island, off the coast of Siberia, for the purpose of claiming it under the British flag.
A brief message arrived some time ago announcing the party’s arrival at Wrangel Island, and thou came a call for relief. Sitoffansson sent the schooner Teddy Bear to rescue the party, whoso Vessel appeared to have been lost. The message received to-day reported that Siberian reindeer herders saw the Teddy Bear trapped in the ice. Stcfansson expressed great anxiety n 3 to the position, and thought it might ho necessary to make an eight hundred mite sledge journey next February to rescue both the Teddy Bear’s crew and the members of the Wrangel expedition.
