The annual report of Lloyd's register shows that the new tonnage classed by the Society during the year endc+J Juno 30 decreased by 2o per cent., compared with 1919-20. There hadi been such extensive reduction in the plans submitted to the Society in recent- months as to indicate an unprecedented slump in new tonnage. Fifty-eight per cent, of ships were fitttvj for oil burning, and for the first time in the Society's history moie oil burners than coal burners have been built.
