Side shoots should be severely pinched out. In cases where the last crops have been picked the ground should be cleared of the withered growth, re - dug and utilised for sowings of other vegetables,
BROAD BEANS Make a email sowing of broad beans. Sow them in ground that has already been mauurod this autumn. Tread the ground well to make it firm, and then hoe the surface before making the drills for the seeds. Choose a part of the garden that gets all the winter sun, as this sowing is to produce beans for use in spring. A larger sowing may be made later on. The seeds should be five or six inches apart, and the rows two feet apart. CARROTS Carrots that are matured ehould be lifted and stored in dry sand. If this is done they will retain their freshness for several months. Before Btoring it is advisable to cut the top?. Red beet, that is matured, may also be stored in a 'similar manner, but the tops should not be cu+. j PARSNIPS I In the case of parsnips it is better to let them remain in the ground, as their flavonr is improved aft?r frosts. They may with advantage be left in the ground till the end of July, GEjNERAL SOWINGS Sowing? of carrots, onions, turnips, broad beans, silver beet, lettuce, cabbage and cauliflowers | may be continued. The soil Bhbuld be made firm before sowling either onions or turnips.
TREATMENT OF SPARE PLOTS Take advantage of any plots being vacant to trench and manure them in readiness for a future crop.
