STRANGE CAS]-: AT WELLINGTON. A rather extraordinary story eond ruing two girls and theii Chinese untie was told iu the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. It was stated that the girls—Elizabeth Jane Rosonna Conrad and Emily Ethel Conrad—had been in the habit at various times o: living at the house in Austin-strcct of William Joseph Gett, a Chinese merchant, and the undo of the girls. The elder girl, who Was known as Jane, often assisted Geti by banking his money and carrying out other financial errands. There was also a cheque to redeem a draft on the bank. When the girl failed to return from the bank, Gett became a lithe anxious, and his feelings were not relieved vlien bo subsequently discovered that the girls had parked up their belongings and left the house in Austin-street. Gett immediately informed Plain-clothes-Constable Black, and inquiries led to the arrest of both girls on the Main Trunk express at Palmerston North the same day. Ridded, S M., on Wednesday, they were obviously distressed at their predicament. They had nothing to say, but in a statement given to the police they had admitted everything.
