"SUNNY JIM" AND SOCIALISM.
TO THK EMTOB. Sin,—Friend E.N.D. has had a splcndid opportunity to get off sonic of his pet ideas on returning to the attack on Sunny Jim, Imt it is really and truly remarkable how E.N.D. and gentlemen of his kidney full into illogical argument and miss tl;c real crux of the objections raised by the son of sunshine when limy got mixed up in the maze of their own tangled ideas. Sunny Jim is an absolute believer in true Liberalism and Socialism, but he is a sworn enemy to hybrid demonstrations of such platforms, especially when; the advocates shower abuse and personalities on all and sundry such as emanated from top of the candle box on a recent Saturday evening at the corner of Hasnard and Seddon streets, E.N.D. says: "W'v cannot judge of Christianity or of Socialism by the uniform of its soldiers; it is the object for which they fight that must he examined." Allow Sunny Jim to remark, friend E.N.D., that your little argument therein cannot stand for a moment the light of reason or examination. In the first plucv, if so-called Christianity fulfilled its functions lliero would he no need whatever of Socialism, but it doesn't. Then, I can without challenge, claim the right ill this question to examine and criticise both the " uniform "_ and the " soldiers " as well as the objective. Granted the latter is a fair and just one, I want to know the motives, the life, and the worthiness of the uniform of these soldiers, before following them, and 1 have every right to claim it. No, friend E.N.D., 1 finite allow the worth of'gcnuinc strife in the. battle of lif", and that there are many. injustices rampant in our world to-day; but when ;;ien take the platform as leaders and teachers of men 1 look for moderate language, confident argument, and good example, not for recrimination, abuse and the exhibition of personal feeling combined with the spliting up of the ranks of labour to the advantage of the. man in power.—l am, etc., Sunny Jim.
