New York, January 25 Tbe Navy Deparlmont at Washington baß issued a statement to the effect that Mr MetoaJfa asked Admiral Evans to transmit the tact of the letters and other oommunioat'ons between Admiral Davis and the authority at Kingston, Admiral Evans replied stating that Admiral Davis on tho ■ 18th reported as follows:-" Yielding to the importunities of tho Colonial Socretary and Polioß Inspector, who spoko for the Governor, I landed fifty men under arms from the Indiana,"
Tho following letter was Ihe same day delivered to Admiral Daviß from Sir J, A. Swottenham! "I beg to thank your Excollonoy for the kind assistance you have rendered the Government of this colony," In the opinion of the officials of the Navy Departmen this correspondence entirely relieves Admiral Davis of any criticism on his action in landing foroes, London, January 25
Sir I A. Swettenham has cabled that one or two hundred oorpsos must await removal from extensive rnins for the next twelvo months.
