TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Would you allow me Bpaoe in yonr paper in which to reply to Mr Katz'a lettor of last night's issue. It is quite true Mc Katz challenged me to debate the question of the " Phenomena of Modern Spiritualism," but Mr Rata knew at the time of his challenge that I was arranging & debate with the Bev. Mr Hicks, the only y gentleman who up to the present has been put forward by the Spiritualists as , their champion, and one of the fineß* platform men seen or heard in Waihi for a very long time-a gentleman who has had thirteen years' practice as a publio speaker, and in comparison with whom Mr Katz would out a very sorry figure indeed, No, sir, I am not seeking the weaker, but by far tho stronger, man of the two. Mr Katz stated I said I would not run away, but consented to debate the r question with him, What I said was thafr-jC 1 would debate the question, as Bet forth in my invitation to Mr Hioks, with him or anyone else, But one at a time should be sufficient,

Let me state again that I acknowledge the phenomena of Spiritualism, but not the theory claimed for it by modern Spiritualists. "■ Mr Katz charges me with choosing "the coward's retreat the publio platform." Tbis, sir, is somewhat new to me, for I never knew before that the publio platform was the coward's retreat, Where has Mr Katz had his retreat!? Lot him answer, V where ?
