The Westminster Glee Party
A Splendid Concert Inn flattciing notice) preceding the visit hero of Mr, Edward Branscoinbo's Westminster Glee Paity were more than justified .last night. Wo aro well within tho mark when wo say that never in Waihi hits (ho publio heard a concert of better all round excellence, Tho great features of tho function were tho unaccompanied vocal items, which were rondered on a plane naver yet reached by visiting artistes, A gloo by tbe gentlemen of tho Westminster Party, "Foreßters 1 Sound the Cheerful Horn," was the first item, the rendition being reeeived with | hearty applause. " The Dawn of Day," by the Gloo Singers, and "Violets," a duet by Masters Ludlow and Edgley, followed. Both contribution wore rapturously encored, Madame Marie Hooton, an excellent soprano, who had a splendid reooption, pang " Daisies I Wonder," It was beautifully rendorod, and in rosponso to an enooro the artisto sang "Eillarney," "Cherry Ripe," by Master Albert Ludlow; "Poor Thomas 'Day," by Messrs Bauhof, Llewtllyn, and I Storndalo Bennett; and" The House that I Jaolt Built," by the Westminster Glee 1 Fatty, concluded tho first patt of the programme. Mr Dudley Coueton, tho humorist of the company, and whoso reputation as' a society entertainer is considerable, was delightfully amusing. He gave an admirable invitation of a typical country squire presiding at some ohnritable function, its recital put tho wholo nudienso into a tipple of laughter, with frcquont outbursts of merriment, Ho favoured the audience with anothor excellent item concerning what happened at a bazaar, and its /opening by the Mayoress of tho tovjn, 'ln response to 'tho wiphes of tho audiences be gave t other amusing and interesting jtems. A gom of tho evening was 0 trio, " The Spirit of God." It was porftctly renderod, and improved and pleasod tho audience in a, remarkable degree, " Come, Lasses an' Lads," by Madame Hooton, was capitally given and heartily onoored A most excellent song," To My First I'ovo," by Mr. Sterndalo Bennett, brought down tho house, Ho woe encored again and ngain. '■ Old Rhyme*" by tho Westminster Qloq Purty, was a treat to listen to, The concert was brought to a concision by tho Glee F'trty Binging the National Antbotn.
