SQUANDERING PUBLIC MONEY

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—There are two public mea in this tpwn who should be entertained unci presented with a leather medal eacb. I refer to Messrs Donaldson and Foster. These two men nio great in their own particular line, the first named for sacrificing publio monev-rnever hie own—for political purposes, and the last-named for preventing the people living in the outskirts of the town from paving good footpaths and roadji Ever since he (Mr Foster) has been in the Council he has raised iiis'voico against the expenditure of money in the outskirts. Tho only thing ho does strongly advocate i s _ the. bowling green expenditure. He sticks to that like & lceoh, for he wants amusement and entertainment at tho expense of the generous ratepayers of Waihi. The only cry he has is why should wo spend money on roads to out of tho way places, When he built on a sw«"ip, he fought and fought until th* Boroßjj'u' npent heaps of money 10 qni<lni Mui, and the result is he has now a j.roperty made valuable by heavy Borough expenditure. The then Councillors should bavo said" If men will build in swaiops, why should we expend tho public monoy in making places for them," That answer would be more reasonable, than the one Cr. Foster is. giving to • the request of those living outsiiio the precincts of tho town for footpaths. Tho outskirts of this town, no mattor whether you turn norih, south,' east or west, nro a disgraie, and I am glad to see that Cr. Golebrook is agitating about tho expense of the office, Why, thorn is tho Mayor getting for nothing. He protends to study economy. Why doesn't ho givo up his salary ? I am, however, getiiug amy from tho point, Then wo have Mr, Donaldson, I consider that the people oi Waihi should do-' mand hii withdrawal fiom the Hospital Oo'mraittuo, or the people of Waihi should rofuso to subscribe to the funds whilst he is in it. Tiino and again appeals havo boen mtido for funds for the Hospital, and 110 qne begrudgos finauoial help to suoh a worthy cause. But if money is being squandered, as, now exposed, I soy let everybody stop giving. Contorts and all kinds'of things are being constantly got up, and yet the money is thrown away bj the committee. The faot is the committee has 100 rnuoh money. Thoy forgot that they are trusteos of publio moneys. Now Mr Donaldson, because he is President of the Liberal League, wishes, to show his admiration for tho Government by strong, ly advocating that tho Government lusuranco Company get a paltry risk oyer the furniture, notwithstanding tW fact that- tho premium is over 4s per 100 more than the other competing firm. I say when a man will drag his politics into such amatler, and sjuandor the money people are making sacrifices to give, there is.only ono thing |o do—" biff " him out. Hopiug others will take up this important, qnesr tion,-I am, etc,, 1 ' True Blue.
